    abstract

The problem of the stability of annular plates is common, especially in aeronautical engineering where there is a need to create circular holes in compressed plates. The purpose of such holes may be to minimize the weight of the vehicle or to provide access, to pass cables and pipes and so on. The practical loading conditions and the buckling shape are not necessarily of axial symmetry, but the results presented here for the axisymmetric problem may give a good estimation of the critical load of the real problem.
