    abstract

As the demand for longer life and higher electrical power levels on-board spacecraft grows, the need for improvement in current energy sources and for development of new power supplies also increases. No single power generation device can meet all of the projected power requirements, and as a result, advances are being sought in solar cells, batteries and nuclear power systems. This paper discusses several programs which are presently being sponsored in some of these areas and compares the goals of these efforts with the current state-of-the-art and projected capabilities of other power systems.
