    abstract

This paper presents three different redundancy configurations for an 8x8 microwave switch matrix (MSM). The design approach has adopted a fast switching PIN diodes matrix, realized in a cross-bar configuration in MIC, and connected to redundancy networks made up of latching electromechanical switches to provide a redundant operation. Seven-year survival probabilities in excess of 0.95 can be obtained with the three configurations. However, a 16 x 16 MSM using 16 SPDT-switches as redundancy circuits, provide enhanced performance that is almost independent of junction switch failure rates.
