    abstract

The purpose of this paper is to present the technology plans and the results in the development of an advanced SAR antenna technology programme for a large space antenna. Electrical performance requirements and geometric constraints impose stringent conditions upon the structural configuration and the mechanical tolerances. A slotted waveguide array antenna with overall dimensions of 10 m x 1 m is described. The antenna is mechanically divided into 5 panels which are reinforced by a deployable truss structure. Structure and waveguide components are made from CFRP. The development has progressed to the manufacturing and testing of a full-scale 3-panel functional model. Mechanical and thermal testing has been performed as well as deployment testing with gravity compensation. Test results are given.
