    abstract

    The technol ogy o-f in-flatable, chemi cal 1 y-r i gi di zed membranes tor the realization ot large space structures has been investigated in Europe during the last -few years, with emphasis on antenna re-f 1 ectors. The paper discusses the near-term applications, which can be covered by the present technology, or small modi-f i cat i ons thereot. The discussion is subdi vi ded into three parts. First, the application tields are surveyed. In the second part, the development status in the di-f-ferent areas is presented. Finally, the suitability of the available materials is discussed and the needed developments are summarized.
