    abstract

This paper describes a Get-Away Special experiment to measure the carbon dioxide content of the earth's atmosphere using the two micron wave-length band of the infrared. A detailed design of the experiment is presented treating both electro-optical and mechanical components. It is also shown how the experiment will be integrated into the Space Shuttle in compliance with NASA regulations. Payload special requirements, interfacing with NASA equipment, thermal design and payload safety are considered. Estimations of the overall mass of the experimental package, power consumption and the amount of data are given.
