    abstract

A concept of regenerative life support system (LSS) construction for lunar missions is reviewed. Principal features of the concept proposed is LSS stage —by—stage development with an increase in the degree of its closure, a combination of physical/chemical and biological regeneration processes, LSS maximal possible standardization for long — duration orbital stations and a lunar base. The paper is based on research, development and operation of regenerative LSS in Russia. It is shown that integrated physical/chemical systems for water recovery and air revitalization on the Mir space station with an added system for carbon dioxide reduction and a prospective vitamin green house may be used for first lunar missions after testing on international Space Station Alpha (ISSA).
