    abstract

3D Visual Training (3D ViT) is ESA’s new On-Board Training (OBT) tool for crew activities which need to be performed without previous ground-based training. A 3DViT prototype was developed for a tablet device and used as a technology demonstrator (proof of concept) during two recent ISS missions by NASA and ESA astronauts. One payload and one systems activity were selected to evaluate the effectiveness of 3DViT. Details of the 3DViT tool and the associated workflows are presented. Feedback from the participating astronauts, operations personnel and training community is discussed and the potential for regular operational usage on-board the ISS and for future exploration scenarios is considered.
