    abstract

Within the space community, no topic is more important than space sustainability. The sustainable conduct of space activities is a critical condition for the achievement of our shared future in space. In 2019, the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space has released a set of foundational guidelines for the long-term sustainability of outer space activities. Building upon that starting point, the entire space community is now working to make sure that space activities can be conducted in a sustainable manner. As representatives of the young generations in space, we are at the forefront of current global efforts to ensure the sustainable development of space. Countless SGAC initiatives have been conducted in the area of space sustainability, and many more start every day. In order to enhance the efforts conducted by the space generation for the sustainable development of space, the Space Generation Advocacy and Policy Platform (SGAPP) of the Space Generation Advisory Council (SGAC) has established a specialized policy division on “Space Sustainability. Over the course of 2022, this specialized division will work to develop a policy overview illustrating the various activities conducted throughout our SGAC on the sustainable development of space. The purpose of the proposed paper is to present the main findings and conclusions that will be outlined in the “SGAC for Space Sustainability” policy overview. Please note that this abstract is submitted by the SGAPP Coordinators on behalf of SGAC, and that the individuals who will be selected to work as part of the specialized division will be added as authors upon their official onboarding.
