    abstract

    The up-and-coming increase in volume and diversity of space activities, from satellite constellations and space tourism to lunar exploration and beyond, demand a coordinated approach to commercial spaceport development on Earth. The primary purpose of this paper is to examine the possible creation of an Integrated Network for Commercial Spaceports (INCS), a global framework aimed at unifying the operations, standards, and resources of commercial spaceports worldwide to meet the growing demands of the space sector, to foster sustainability in spaceport development and utilization. The ICSN would provide a collaborative platform and network where commercial spaceports share standards, resources, and expertise to meet the growing demands of the space industry to support diverse activities such as satellite launches, space tourism, cargo transportation, and research missions, enabling seamless operations and equitable access to space. The network’s primary goals and components incorporate: • {\bf Regional and Geographic Distribution}: Establishing strategically located spaceports to optimize orbital access, including equatorial, polar, and high inclination launch capabilities, catering to diverse mission requirements. • {\bf Global Supply Chain and Logistics}: Creating a unified logistics framework to coordinate payload transportation, ground support services, and resource sharing across the network. • {\bf Economic Inclusivity}: Facilitating the participation of emerging economies by supporting the development of spaceports in underrepresented regions, creating a more inclusive and competitive global space market. • {\bf Disaster Resilience and Redundancy}: Creating a distributed network of launch facilities to ensure mission continuity and rapid recovery in the event of local disruptions or failures. • {\bf Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing}: Providing a forum for governments, private companies, and research institutions to exchange ideas, share best practices, and develop innovative solutions. • {\bf Sustainable Practices}: Prioritizing eco-friendly technologies and operations, including green propellants, energy-efficient facilities, and initiatives to minimize environmental impact. • {\bf Integrated Logistics and Scheduling}: Implementing advanced digital tools for real-time coordination of launches, payload transport, and customer services across the network. This paper investigates the possible challenges of establishing the ICSN, including regulatory alignment, technological, and economic challenges, emphasizing the need for international collaboration and alignment with existing space governance frameworks. Drawing lessons from existing global networks, such as the ICAO, the ICSN seeks to provide a scalable and adaptable model for international collaboration in the spaceport sector. By fostering connectivity, innovation, and inclusivity, the ICSN will serve as a cornerstone for humanity’s transition to a thriving, interconnected spacefaring civilization, paving the way for a new era of space commerce and exploration.
